Public Sessions

  1. Q: Is it cold on the ice?
    A: It is a refreshing 50° in the summer months and between 40°-50° in the colder months. Our lobby and warm room temperatures vary from about 65°-75° depending on the time of year.
  2. Q: What do we need to wear?
    A: We recommend a jacket or sweater, long pants, and long socks. Gloves are recommended for small children year round, and are recommended for everyone during the colder months.  
  3. Q: Do we have to pay if we’re not skating?
    A: Only those who will be skating will need to pay. Spectators and parents are welcome, but loitering is not allowed.
  4. Q: Is there anywhere warm for parents and spectators to sit?
    A: Yes! We have an upstairs viewing room called the Warm Room with tables and chairs for your convenience.
  5. Q: Can we bring in our own food?
    A: We do not allow outside food or drinks during public sessions.
  6. Q: We are celebrating a birthday and we are coming skating, can we bring in cake and presents?
    A: Booking a Birthday Party Package or Private Group with us is the only time we allow outside food and gifts.
  7. Q: Where can we put our stuff while we’re skating?
    A: We have lockers available to rent for one time use. We have change machines available for quarters. 
  8. Q: Do you allow younger skaters to skate for free?
    A: All skaters must pay for admission and skate rental (if needed).
  9. Q: What’s your smallest and biggest size skate?
    A: We go down to an 8T and up to a men’s 14.
  10. Q: May I go on the ice in my shoes?
    A: You must be wearing skates and have paid admission to enter the ice surface. During Broomball is the only times we allow regular shoes on the ice.
  11. Q: We only skated for 5 minutes. Can we get a refund?
    A: Once a pass has been purchased, it is non-refundable.
  12. Q: Can we request or play our own music?
    A: We currently have a touch tunes system which allows you to play whatever music you wish.
  13. Q: Can I carry my child while on the ice?
    A: Carrying children on the ice is not allowed.
  14. Q: Do you have season passes?
    A: Yes.  Check out our annual pass information on our annual pass page.
  15. Q: Can we drop our older child/children off at Gateway?
    A: It is common for parents to drop their older children off at the facility.
  16. Q: If I am dropping my children off, can I pay for them ahead of time?
    A: At this point in time we do not have that capability, but we are working towards this option.  
  17. Q: How tight should ice skates be tightened?
    A: Ice skates need to be fairly tight and snug fitting to assure proper foot support.
  18. Q: Can we wear skates to the corner store or outside?
    A: Skates are not allowed outside, on cement bleachers, or anywhere there is not protective rubber flooring or the ice surface itself.
  19. Q: How old does one need to be to skate?
    A: That is based on shoe size and parent discretion.
  20. Q: Do you honor expired coupons?
    A: Sorry, we do not accept expired coupons.
  21. Q: Do you allow wheelchairs on the ice?
    A: Due to safety requirements for the person in the wheelchair and other skaters, we do not allow this during public sessions. Private arrangements may be made. Contact the facility for details.
  22. Q: Do you have a snack bar?
    A: Yes! Our snack bar is located in the Warm Room.
  23. Q: When do you have the snack bar open?
    A: Our snack bar is open during busier public sessions. We do have vending machines available for use when it is not in operation.
  24. Q: What do you serve at the snack bar?
    A: We offer sodas, cheesy nachos, candy, chips, cookies, coffee, tea, and hot cocoa at our snack bar.
  25. Q: Do you have handicap access to the Warm Room/snack bar?
    A: Yes! We have an elevator available for handicap assistance. Ask a staff member to gain access to it.
  26. Q: Do you have somebody on the ice at all times for assistance?
    A: Yes! One of our Ice Attendants is on the ice at all times.
  27. Q: Do you have TVs to watch while my children skate?
    A: Yes! We have a large TV located in the Warm Room.
  28. Q: Is there free Wi-Fi for customer use?
    A: Yes! Ask any staff member for the password.
  29. Q: Do you have special holiday sessions?
    A: Yes! We have daily public sessions during holiday breaks, as well as on holidays themselves. The only holidays we are closed for are the 4th of July and Thanksgiving Day. Check our website for current hours.
  30. Q: Can we use coupons during the last hour of public session?
    A: Last hour rates are already discounted and cannot be combined with coupons. Coupons may be saved and use during future visits, providing they are valid.
  31. Q: Do you have special effect lighting?
    A: Yes! During our night sessions, we turn out the regular lights and turn on our special effects.
  32. Q: Can a public session be extended so we get extra time if we show up late?
    A: Our public sessions cannot be extended.
  33. Q: What if I don’t know how to skate?
    A: We offer skating lessons for all ages on Saturdays at 12:30pm and Wednesdays at 6:10pm. These are our Skating School times. Your first lesson is free!
  34. Q: Do you have gift certificates?
    A: Yes! Gift certificates are available for purchase.
  35. Q: Can we pay with a check?
    A: We only accept cash and credit cards during public sessions.
  36. Q: What credit cards do you accept?
    A: We take Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.
  37. Q: Do I need ID to pay with a credit card?
    A: Yes. This is for your protection.
  38. Q: Where can I find coupons?
    A: Enjoy the City, Z Best, Zoo Boo, and local schools are just a few places to get coupons.  
  39. Q: Where can I stay up to date with events happening at the rink?
    A: You can always register for updates on this website,  or like us on Facebook.
  40. Q: Can I wear my hockey gear to practice skating?
    A: Yes, but keep in mind that you must abide to public session safety rules. You may not take a stick or puck onto the ice during a public session.
  41. Q: Are certain areas of the ice reserved for advanced skating during Public Sessions?
    A: The entire ice surface is available for all of the general public, with the exception of birthday party lessons.
  42. Q: How long am I allowed to skate with the purchase of a Public Session admission?
    A: The purchase of a Public Session admission allows you to skate for the entire duration of the skating session for which that admission was purchased. Check our calendar for start and end times.
  43. Q: Where do we pay for a Public Session pass?
    A: Public Session passes are purchased at our skate counter, or at the cashier booth.
